I bought this book after being accepted by Netgalley for The Beautiful Corpse which is the second in this series.
Harper McCain is a Night time Number one, Crime Reporter for the Savannah Daily News.
Her mother was horribly murdered decades ago when she was a little girl. Her murder has never been solved.
She has been swept up in a murder of a women whose crime scene is identical to that of her mothers.
Oh my, I absolutely loved/love Harper and I have done since the first word.
I love her fight, her strength and how she will throw herself into any and all kinds of danger to uncover the truth. Risking her job, her life, friends and much more. She’s not just any reporter who wants any story.
Yes, she wants a story but she wants all the nitty and gritty, she will delve so far into her stories, she ultimately ends up helping to solve them.
She is serious, she loves organization and order, she is minimalistic. She’s a crazy cat lady, workaholic and crime reporter by night and crime solver by day. She is so unbelievably addicted.
All the other characters were well written, interesting and fit perfectly within the story. Especially Harpers Best Friend.
Although this wasn’t a shocking twisty ’omg I didn’t see that coming book’, We do cotton on to the ’who’ in the early stages. It actually takes nothing away from this book. As we are so addicted to Harper, the what’s and whys.
I devoured this book and the next book in the series over a weekend. I have absolutely enjoyed this book. I could not put it down, the way Christi writes is beautiful she really does make you want to jump straight into the characters mind and life. She keep you turning the page so fast, It could fly off like a paper aeroplane. I couldn’t get enough of Harper, her love life, her crime solving. She’s a force to be reckoned with.
I really loved how excellent the book was written/edited and the extensive advanced vocabulary. As well as an awesome plot and interesting characters. We had a mini vocabulary lesson. I think I highlighted like 3-4 a page.
Overall, this was an interesting very well written book. And was told from a crime reporters POV instead of the usual police etc etc.
As a newspaper reporter, Christi Daugherty began covering murders at the age of 22. She worked as a journalist for years in cities including Savannah, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Her work eventually took her to England, where she wrote the international bestselling Night School series under the name CJ Daugherty. The Echo Killing is the first novel in the Harper McClain Mysteries series. A Beautiful Corpse, book 2 in the series, comes out in 2019.
