Metal artist Katie Mack is living a lie. Nine years ago she ran away from her family in Raleigh, North Carolina, consumed by the irrational fear that she would harm Maisie, her newborn daughter. Over time she’s come to grips with the mental illness that nearly destroyed her, and now funnels her pain into her art. Despite longing for Maisie, Katie honors an agreement with the husband she left behind—to change her name and never return.

But when she and Maisie accidentally reunite, Katie can’t ignore the familiarity of her child’s compulsive behavior. Worse, Maisie worries obsessively about bad things happening to her pregnant stepmom. Katie has the power to help, but can she reconnect with the family she abandoned?

To protect Maisie, Katie must face the fears that drove her from home, accept the possibility of love, and risk exposing her heart-wrenching secret.

H Today I am sharing my book review for ‘The promise between us’ Blog Tour. Thank you to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for allowing me to be apart of it.

Speechless, hold on a second while I gather my thoughts that are a huge jumbled mess on the floor along with my jaw…

Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin with this book if I’m honest.

Many try to write books on mental illness, many unfortunately still fail. It’s such a big and much needed topic that needs to keep being addressed. To stop the stigma, to raise more awareness, more acceptance and less ignorance and judgement.

But this is an exceptional book, which really does get mental illness completely right. Now you can never get it 100% because mental illness is such a wide and broad spectrum, even those with the same illness are affected so differently.

But this book is pretty damn close and it is tactfully done with respect, Knowledge, understanding etc.

It is told from a few different characters perceptions and deals with not just one person with a mental illness. But a few which shows how anxiety, OCD, Mental Illnesses can be so different depending on who. Different symptoms, different pasts, different ways of dealing with it etc.

This book has it all very emotionally omg so emotionally, spot of good humour, hopeful and interesting

Written exceptionally well, good plot, excellent interesting real characters which you really get into there minds, they all have incredible depth ands it’s so easy to become addictive to each characters which you can not help but like no matter what there personality is like, what they have done. And they are very relatable no matter who you are.

This book is also about love, family, communication and support etc .

Beautiful, extremely emotional, harrowing, multi-dimensional,Diverse characters, addictive, thought-provoking, heartfelt.

Barbara Claypole White is a new author to me, and this most definitely will not be the only book I read by this author.

I highly recommend and it deserves all the stars.
