Karen Devitt is a young, beautiful and ambitious artist. She is also struggling to make ends meet. And to make matters worse her father has fallen ill. Through love and a sense of duty, she neglects her painting to be by his side while her brother, in the absence of their father, is forced to take over the family firm which is now collapsing under his stewardship, leaving the entire Devitt family in disarray and facing certain financial ruin.Single, but not looking for love, Karen meets the dashing and ruggedly good looking Ralph Corbeck, a wealthy landowner of a prestigious game reserve in southern Africa. He is also a highly regarded businessman and a ruthless investor with a reputation as a womaniser. And he has identified and targeted the Devitt’s family business for an aggressive takeover. From Karen and Ralph’s first encounter emotions run high, and unwittingly, Karen is lured to his game reserve where she stays at his extraordinary safari chalet, Vundu Lodge. Here, she begins to get an insight into the real Ralph Corbeck. Betrayal, deceit, jealousy and love all have their role to play, and the inferno and beauty of the African wilderness fuels this searing and beautiful romance.

This is such a stunningly beautiful book that actually left me speechless.

I loved Tessa’s writing style and she really does describe and set the scene with such authenticity which has you captivated to your seat and really feel like you are right there in the Zambezi game reserve at the Vundu Lodge.

Karen is such a spellbinding, beautiful, straight talking, kind and humorous character. She is a struggling artist, who is caring for her father after he had a stroke. Her mother died a couple of years earlier. Her father built Devitt Engineering Ltd over 40 years ago, Her brother Simon has taken over the business since his father became ill. Unfortunately, the company is struggling. And they are at risk of losing there family home, business etc.

The biggest thing I love about Karen is her love for Her father and brother. How she puts everybody else first before herself and her dreams.

Then comes along Ralph Corbeck, who she meets at a new years eve party. The seemingly hot shot, arrogant, extremely handsome womaniser bachelor who seems only interested in himself, his businesses and investments.

Karen donated one of her paintings for a charity gala to raise money for a children charity. Which unbeknownst to her would sell at an outstanding price to an anonymous buyer and she won a two month holiday to Vundu Lodge in the Zambezi, South Africa. Where she gets to be an artist and paint beautiful oil paintings of the outstanding Zambezi game reserve.

This it is full of magnificent settings, there is betrayal, love, jealousy and so much more.

I devoured this book in 6 hours even while purposely reading it slower so I could take it all in. As a debut, this is one top-notch, rare, breath-taking novel which ends with a speechless cliffhanger.

An awe-inspiring, moving, emotive read that leaves you with jaw ache from smiling and laughing and a tear from heartfelt sobs.

100% wholeheartly recommend this book. And I am super excited to read book 2 when it’s out!!.

Tessa Andrews was born in Rhodesia and raised in Zimbabwe where she spent an idyllic childhood riding horses and camping with carefree abandon in the veld of southern Africa. She had a colourful upbringing and despite being attacked by a rabid jackal, contracting malaria and bilharzia, and being chased by a hippo, she still remembers her youth with great affection and waxes lyrical about her adventures.

Moving to England at the age of nineteen, she graduated from Brunel University and worked for a number of years within the publishing sector, primarily in London.

Moving out of the big smoke she has now settled in a quaint English village called Thriplow, well known for its annual daffodil festival and located just outside the famous city of Cambridge, England. She says she could not be happier.

Blessed with a beautiful daughter, an amazing son, and a devoted husband, she has begun her literary journey drawing upon her life experiences of holidays spent in the Zambezi Valley. Inspired by the wildlife and beauty of Africa, she has woven romance into her nostalgic tales, all of which have been garnered from the incredible game reserves she used to visit, and still continues to visit, to this day.
