I’m Lucy, and I have a secret.I have a beautiful home, that I’m desperate to escape. But that’s not my secret.I tell my friends I’ve never wanted children, when I always have. But that’s not my secret. My husband is a celebrated surgeon, who tries to control me.But that’s not my secret.
Adele knows.Once upon a time, I knew everything about her and she knew everything about me.Best friends forever. But now our secret is beginning to surface.I can trust her more than anyone. We made a pact. And she’s never do anything to hurt me. Would she?
This absolutely gripping psychological thriller will have you forgetting everything until the last shocking twist. Fans of Behind Closed Doors, Friend Request, and The Girl on the Trainwill be hooked.
Lucy Wheelon was a teenager from a wealthy background, she started a new school where she met Adele, her best friend who was from a completely different background, council, little money etc. This didn’t matter to Lucy she was just happy to have a best friend. Until a tragic accident occurred, well that’s what everybody else thinks, and Adele and Lucy have a friendship pact which tears them apart.
Fast forward, Lucy is now married to a wealthy, hardworking, well- respected surgeon. It seems like Lucy has it all, a husband, a big house, money etc. But that’s how it appears to everybody else but behind closed doors its a very different story. Her husband is abusive and controlling. She is not allowed to work, she can’t have any children because he already has 2 from a previous relationship, he monitors her texts messages, internet browsing history, who she can and can’t talk too and so much more.
When her abuse gets worse, fearing for her life if she contacts the police, files for divorce.
She calls upon her old best friend, Adele. Who she knows has been in prison, and wants to see if she has any connections so she can finally be free from Marcus, with a new identity and a new life.
I had a love and hate relationship with Lucy. Well written character but I found myself saying what the hell, why have you done this and that. Which I think adds to the storyline.
This turns in a sinister, thrilling, unnerving domestic noir which is fast-paced and full of twists and turns. It will have you glued to your seat.
A standalone with an excellent storyline, nail-biting, terrifying events and a love-hate relationship with the characters. Told from Lucys POV with interchangeable chapters from the past and present.
Born in the Cotswolds, Alison spent most of her formative years abroad. She studied languages at Oxford, then became a journalist and author, returning to university after her two children to take a law degree. After a three-year stint as a criminal paralegal, Alison worked as a commercial copywriter and then a TV storyline, before coming full circle to write fiction again.
