My Review

Plot

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Elliot is a scientist, teaching disadvantaged children in poor poverty about science. Single and living in a beautiful Victorian house with his Charlie. When he meets Gemma when she comes to an open house and after Elliot survives a severe allergic reaction from a bee sting set upon a whirlwind romance ending in them getting married. Gemma’s parents and her younger sister who is coming back from France with nowhere to go, come to stay with them supposedly for a few weeks.

This evidently becomes a living horror show and its not long until Elliot realises he is living with in-laws from HELL! If you thought your in-laws were living hell think again! They have NOTHING on Lizzy and Jeff.

I finished this book in two sittings, it was a tremendous, addictive, spine-chilling thriller with an impressive and dramatic chain of tournaments and incidents.

Characters

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Elliot, I loved him you could really comprehend and sense his raw emotions throughout switching from pure happiness bliss to animosity, hatred, turmoil, and a whole abundance of conflicting emotions etc.

Gemma, hmm I liked her but there was always this little microscopic niggle of scepticism in my mind. But seemingly she did seem like the perfect wife for Elliot. She was a satisfying character and sitting on the edge with her definitely made her more intriguing and unusual.

The parents, wow 😮 rotting in hell instead of inflicting torturous hell on everybody in their line of fire, is where they should be. They are dark, dangerous, arrogant, judgemental and downright horrible people. But also morbidly fascinating antagonists and well developed.

Writing Style

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Marks writing is suspenseful, exhilarating and dark. He really does fulfil in creating ‘normal’ characters into the most horrifying hellish characters you could come across.

Pacing

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was a fast-paced thrilling read, although I do feel that it could have been slightly shorter it’s not a massive deal in my opinion.

Cover

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Beautiful and stunningly designed cover, and definitely leaves you with the scare factor to pick up and want to read it.

Mini-Review

Marks writing is suspenseful, exhilarating and dark. Morbidly fascinating antagonists and well developed. A spine-chilling thriller with an impressive and dramatic chain of occurrences and incidents.
