A city in darkness. A building in lockdown. A score that can only be settled in blood…
Working off the books for FBI Special Agent Alex Monroe, Florida bounty-hunter Lori Anderson and her partner, JT, head to Chicago. Their mission: to entrap the head of the Cabressa crime family. The bait: a priceless chess set that Cabressa is determined to add to his collection.
An exclusive high-stakes poker game is arranged in the penthouse suite of one of the city’s tallest buildings, with Lori holding the cards in an agreed arrangement to hand over the pieces, one by one. But, as night falls and the game plays out, stakes rise and tempers flare.
When a power failure plunges the city into darkness, the building goes into lockdown. But this isn’t an ordinary blackout, and the men around the poker table aren’t all who they say they are. Hostages are taken, old scores resurface and the players start to die.
And that’s just the beginning…
This is an action-packed thriller, starring Lori Anderson who is a bounty hunter and her partner JT who is working undercover and as her security. They have a mission with FBI Special Agent Alex Monroe.
It is a truly gripping and interesting plot that has you completely hooked after a slow start. But it builts and builts ups like lego into an incredible, action-packed, fascinating, addictive and thrilling rollercoaster that stays with you.
Lori and JT are in Chicago working of the books for special agent Alex Monroe.
They are trying to bring down Cabressa the top guy in the biggest crime family in Chicago by baiting a special chest set in a penthouse which was one big safety lock-in. This plot really ramps up once the lights go out.
One of the best female protagonist that I have read in a good white. She is exceptionally tough, authentic, fearless and kind-hearted character. She may be the above but she is also a compassionate and caring woman too. She is seemingly a good mother and worries alot despite and because of her job. I love her relationship with JT and her daughter Dakota.
This does start off slow with an amazing opening, that does instantly grabs you by the throat as the book continues at lightning speed revealing an adventure, claustrophobic, chilling pacing which takes your breath away while something is tightening around your chest and not letting go until that epic ending.
I absolutely love Stephs writing style and she has an amazing style of writing. It is a cracklinglywell-crafted novel which is easy to read and get your claws stuck in too.
Wow! This is cover is beautifully well done and really matches the deep dark novel.
I really do highly recommend this book, it takes you through so many emotions. The beginning, middle and the explosive ending is fuckingoutstanding with one of the best female protagonists that I have ever had the pleasure of ‘meeting’ in this dark book.
