Would you defend your husband if he was accused of killing his mistress?

Sarah Morgan is a successful and powerful defense attorney in Washington D.C. At 33 years old, she is a named partner at her firm and life is going exactly how she planned.

The same cannot be said for her husband, Adam. He is a struggling writer who has had little success in his career. He begins to tire of his and Sarah’s relationship as she is constantly working.

Out in the secluded woods, at Adam and Sarah’s second home, Adam engages in a passionate affair with Kelly Summers.

Then, one morning everything changes. Adam is arrested for Kelly’s murder. She had been found stabbed to death in Adam and Sarah’s second home.

Sarah soon finds herself playing the defender for her own husband, a man accused of murdering his mistress.

But is Adam guilty or is he innocent?

Rating: 9 out of 10.

Plot/Narrative

I don't know where to begin with this book but Jesus it's a helluva captivating, suspenseful and shocking ride with an outstanding well written and extremely thought out plot. You won't believe this is the author's debut novel. I shall most definitely be looking for more books from this author in the future.

Sarah Morgan, one of the top criminal defence lawyers and Her husband Adam Morgan, who is a struggling writer. Adams mistress Kelly is found the dead and only person who can defend Adam in court is his wife.

This isn't your regular psychological domestic thriller, oh no this is a fresh unique tale of revenge, lies, deception and oh so much more.

Characters

The characters in this book are fantastic, they have many many layers.
And the relationship between them are brilliant such as Sarah and Adam they don't seem suitable from day dot they are basically polar opposites but as they say, opposites attract.

Jeneva does a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life and I especially loved Sarah and looking into her life as a criminal defence attorney and seemingly how intelligent she is, she is a character that gains your attention from the start, she is clever and articulate.

Adam, I hated him. It's hard to like somebody who has cheated on their wife ( well for me anyway). And doubt is forever wavering back and forth if he can cheat on his wife what else is he capable of.

Writing Style/Pacing

This is told from Sarahs and Adams point of view via alternating chapters and switching from past to present.

The conclusion to this book is wow 😮. I absolutely did not see that coming. But from beginning to end and everything in between is one absolutely terrific read in a spider web. One you won't forget for a while that randomly keeps popping back into your head I think with disbelief of what you have read.

Rose has written a stunning thriller with many twists and turns throughout, and had us believing everybody in this book was a suspect. I absolutely loved every single minute of this book from the layered characters, to the unique fresh plot and Roses writing style.

Themes/Settings

This is set in the US, but I have got to say the setting, the vacation home, Sarah's workplace came alive.

About Jeneva Rose

Hi, I’m Jeneva Rose, and I write mysteries and psychological thrillers. My debut novel THE PERFECT MARRIAGE is out July 13th, 2020. I also write under the pen name J.R. Adler. DEAD WOMAN CROSSING, the first in the Kimberley King series is forthcoming from Bookouture publishing September 23rd, 2020.

I’m originally from Wisconsin and spent the last two years in Ithaca, New York, but I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband and my English bulldog. His name is Sir Winston, the bulldog not the husband, but he also responds to Sweet Prince, again, the bulldog, not the husband. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me cuddled up with a good book, playing a board game, in the kitchen cooking, traveling every chance I get, or binge watching The Office (for the umpteenth time).
